Why this one has to run in your building

• These documents are about named private people. A trust instrument, an estate plan, and a family's tax history identify specific individuals and their holdings. Most offices have no policy that contemplates sending that material to an outside service, because nobody ever proposed it before. Running the model in-house means you do not have to write that policy in order to start.
• Discretion is the product. A family office exists in part so that the family's affairs are not distributed across vendors. Adding a hosted AI service to the stack runs against the reason the office was set up. A machine in the office does not.
• There is usually nobody to run a vendor review. Many offices are unregistered and have no compliance department, which makes vendor diligence an unfunded task that lands on a chief of staff. One deployment on your own network is a materially smaller thing to govern than an ongoing relationship with an outside processor.
• It keeps working when nothing else does. The model and the interface both run on your hardware, so a dropped connection stops your email and not your ability to look something up. For an office that operates from more than one location, that turns out to matter more often than expected.

What family offices ask us

We are not registered with the SEC. Does that change anything?

It changes the reason, not the answer. Without a regulator setting the floor, the constraint is the family's own expectation of privacy, which is usually stricter than a rule would be. A local deployment satisfies it by construction rather than by contract.

Our documents are a mess of scans, PDFs, and twenty years of folders.

That is the normal starting condition and a good part of the value. Scanned and photographed documents are read on the way in, and the search runs across what the documents say rather than what the folders are called. We tell you during scoping which parts of the archive are too degraded to be worth indexing.

Who else in the office can see what a principal asked it?

Whoever you decide. The deployment sits behind your existing access controls, and we configure separation between staff, family members, and principals at install. Because the logs are on your machine, the answer to who can read them is a question about your own permissions rather than about a vendor's admin console.
